Barn Hill (better known as Florida) 16.07.2012 to 18.07.2012

Along our ways chatting to the odd silver nomad lots of them said we must visit Barn Hill. Apparently they are famous amongst the silvers for their cheap roast dinner one night a week and guess what? we missed it.

Turning off the highway onto the dirt road into Barn Hill we had to stop at a couple of gates to open due to cattle grazing. We passed a pair of silvers who said their bread and vanilla slices are to die for (anybody would think that food is all the silvers think of) anyway we did sample the slices at some point during our 2 night stay and I must admit they were pretty good.

Upon arriving at the caravan park we could see the powered sites were crammed in like sardines and we managed to get one powered site but it was meant for a tent not a caravan so we had to move over to the generator friendly non powered site area which was in a good spot but man those silvers certainly like running their generators.
The coastline around the area consisted of cliffs and one beach which was very unfriendly for swimming due to the waves building up a big wall before slamming onto the beach however we braved it and got ourselves wet.
Robin and Sue, who we had met at 80 mile beach, then met up with them again at Port Smith also arrived at Barn Hill the same day as us so we had a good time together again.

I must admit I have never been to Florida but thanks to a few movies I imagine it to be one big retirement village which is what Barn Hill definitely was. It was full of shufflers and silvers (the lost generation) so boy did we stick out like a sore thumb. It had a lawn bowling green, I saw a big circle of silvers doing thai chee or something like that to their relaxing music so I was expecting any minute to come across a session of bingo.
This must be a very enjoyable spot to hang out for the shufflers and silvers as there were even quite a few plaques on the cliffs where peoples ashes had been scattered, hence my nickname for Barn Hill - Florida. The scenery was quite nice though and Rach took some good photo opportunites of course.

Can you see the monster face?

Next stop Broome........
