Not only is this beach long (remember eighty miles) but also wide. 4WDs are constantly driving up and down as the sand is as hard as a dirt road. Come around 3pm all of the fisherman start taking their pole positions along the beach to catch the ultimate fish of the week. All along the beach you see 4WD, fishermen and rods stretching for miles along the beach, it really is quite a sight to see. One day Crowey decided to jump on his bike and see how long it would take him to get to the last fisherman along the beach (what he thought was the shortest end anyway). Well he kept going and going, until he was pretty sure he was nearly at the last fisherman only to be fooled and noticed the beach kept going around the corner. Needless to say he decided to turn back at this point, noticing I think that he had been riding for quite some time and the sun was turning his bald head into a fried egg.

It is here that we met a lovely couple from Robe S.A by the name of Robin and Sue. Their travel tales soon had us enthralled and they were so nice to share with us some great spots to go to in WA and NT. That night at Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park they were cooking up hamburgers for a mere $6 each so we grabbed the champers (Sue and I) and they boys got into a nice red and enjoyed our delicious hamburgers as the sun set for another day.

Now you may be wondering with all of that beach, did I find any shells? The answer to that is a definate yes, however it is a battlefield out there on that sandy surface, with all the older ladies getting their husbands to take them further along the beach from the main entrance in to ensure some good shell picking was had. Well I had to get in on the game and one morning got Crowey up early to take me further along the beach too, for some shell collecting. I didn't really get any huge shells (unforturnately there are the returning holiday makers to Eighty Mile Beach who have quad bikes and the knowledge of where to get those big conch shells etc) but I did manage to find some species of shells that I haven't already got. All in all I was pretty happy with my findings and upon returning to camp decided to catorgorize them on our table. See my results below.
Eighty Mile Beach was a very enjoyable spot and we ended up staying a few more days, but soon enough we hit the road and headed for Port Smith, another recommended spot with a lagoon, a place to swim and potential snorkelling.
